THE FUTURE OF SKIN

A NIKE || RISD Collaboration Research Project

Team Members: Elio Icaza : Katie Han : Amy Chen : Lyza Baum : Peter Chang : Kyra Markosian : Cecilie Rushton : Atulya Chaganty : Meredith Hoffman

A semester long exploration of how 'skin' will be defined and function in the near and far future. Through the lens of speculative thinking and design futures, our group explored the meaning of skin as a representation of our humanity and a catalogue of our lives. We developed artificial skins to memorialize and record critical moments of our humanity.

Each of us came from a different major: jewelry and metalsmithing, textiles, industrial design, apparel, and painting. Together we met multiple times a week to work on this project. We each did research and thought of ideas, then came together to test materials, brainstorm concepts, and put together the project. My main role was to work on the presentations (as a form of documentation and as a representative in public forums), create our overarching narrative, and help maintain the agenda and pace of our project.
